In mid 2006 we were hired by PeaceArch Films to score a horror “zomedy” film starring Billy Zane and Shauna MacDonald called “The Mad”. It was a bit of a rush job – the studio only gave us a month to write and record a full 75 minutes worth of mickey-mouse style scoring as well as full pieces of music for this film. The music was to be mostly in the 80’s genre with a few pieces of country and western and some punk rock as well.

We learned a lot about ourselves in the context of songwriting during this time and were pleased to find that we were able to work very quickly and diligently coaxing very appropriate and sometimes side-splittingly funny pieces of music from our imaginations. We recorded the “mickey-mousing” score bits in our rehearsal studio as most of it was just keyboard parts, but the main songs and all the mixing and nuancing was done at Chemical Sound.

It premiered on March 22nd, 2007 at the Canadian Filmmaker’s Festival in the Varsity Theatre, Toronto and went on to be sold to Superchannel and other networks. It still currently plays on Space Channel.
