This will be unusual and not exactly music related, although for me everything is. This morning something had happened to me on my way to work. The sun was shining the weather was sweet, made me want to move my dancing feet. I dropped off my son on his school bus and went to work, grooving to my favorite Zappa - "Apostrophe(')". Long commute, but fine music. Stopped to buy smokes on the corner before getting into the office. Once out i realized that my wallet was gone, with all sensitive information in it.Holy Guacamole...I was running up and down...
It finally occurred to me that I was really on the road when we stopped for a stretch break on the darkened highway and one of us exclaimed “Holy shit! Look up!” and all eyes rose to meet the incredible display of stars in 3D. The close and the far with nothing but the sound of silence and crickets to accompany the dazzling laser Floyd show. It made me secretly wish that there would be another blackout back home so that everyone could share the feeling of being engulfed by such an overwhelming sight of the cosmos. The twenty hour...
By Ann BrodyMany of you are aware of Half Past Four’s last two shows in October and November and we thank all those who came to the Supermarket Halloween gig that we played with Orco Muto and those that came out to the Bolshevik Rox. A special thanks goes out to those who came out to both, namely our trio of fantastic fans Dave, Bill and John. We were left with stupendous impressions regarding the Supermarket “Clean up on aisle 666” event and consider it as one of the most triumphant shows in Half Past Four’s career especially considering many...
By Ann Brody Yes indeed, it is the time again when autumn comes to rest in her garden and Half Past Four is getting more excited for the October 29th show with Orco Muto. The title of our night is “Clean Up on Aisle 666” how satirical, right? That’s because the show is going to take place at a venue called The Supermarket in the groovy neighbourhood of Kensington Market. The spooktastic night will feature a double galore of horror movie music decomposers; Orco Muto and ourselves-Half Past Four. In 2006 Half Past Four scored for the horror comedy “The Mad”...
A lot of people wonder why we named our band Half Past Four. We can explain. The story dates back to the cold winter of 1999 when the first line-up of yet unnamed band emerged. There were four of us: Les and Constantin (who both played guitars at the time), plus their two buddies Daniel (drums), and Sam (bass). Back than it was just a group of friends who were united by their common culture and language. Performing mainly for the Russian community of Toronto, we didn’t want to limit ourselves to some specific genre (an attitude that’s still with us)....
A person of culture will agree that the city of Montreal is perhaps one of the most diverse and culturally expressed places in Canada. The European vibe that engulfs the city is, I think, the ingredient which calls upon many artists and musicians to summon inspiration beyond the standard methods and elaborate on the creative depth of their art. Half Past Four feels it is a great necessity to occasionally play in a city like Montreal because of the belief that the concepts and values of the city greatly match with our music. In order to experience music to its fullest...
Frankly speaking, I never had great expectations to the replies I would get for my "Progressive Drummer Looking" ad on Craigslist. Nevertheless, I decided to take the risk and see how the cards would fall. In my case, lady luck was watching over me and they fell right side up! I was contacted momentarily by Constantin, who later turned out to be the guitarist of the band. After the first few email exchanges along with hearing the music of HPF, I realised that I finally landed in the hands of the right people who I would want to work with...
It seems as though another chapter of the Half Past Fourian adventure is coming close to an end as the summer months fly by, however, our quest is yet to be over and the series is bound to continue, for we shall not rest until we slay the dragon, capture the palace and win the hearts of the citizens. Through the jungles we march, holding our Chapman sticks high as our only weapon, integrity- our most prized possession - should inevitably unlock the golden gates. Bear with me friends; it is quite a challenge to keep one’s mind...
